This course is an introduction to vocal techniques needed to sing sean-nós ("old style") traditional Irish songs. We will do abstract exercises to practice vocal tones and ornaments as well as learning several songs (mostly in English, but also a couple in Irish with phonetic pronunciation of lyrics provided). No experience necessary, but you'll enjoy the course more if you are comfortable singing in general. Some of these melodies are pretty challenging!

The class meetings will be recorded, and students will have access to the recordings for three weeks after each class.
