This advanced-beginning level course assumes a very basic knowledge of scales, keys, intervals, and triads, but we will start with a review of those basics. Perfect for someone who's had some theory lessons in the past but feels rusty or like they never quite "got" it.

 

After the basics review, we will go on to talk about simple chord progressions (in major, minor, Mixolydian, and Dorian), using triads in a key, and an introduction to counterpoint. The purpose of the course is to zero in on how music theory concepts manifest themselves in traditional Irish music.

Class meetings will be recorded. Students will have access to each recording for one month.
