BRAND NEW COURSE!

Host: IrishMusicTeacher.com

Six 60-minute classes via Zoom, Wednesdays 5pm - 6 pm ET.

June 24-July 29, 2026. $160

This is a six-week course

LISTEN TO TRAD is a three-part series about important recordings of Irish music, with six weeks devoted to each part. (You can take the parts in any order.)

Part 2 will cover several trends that shaped the development of the Irish tradition. For example:

  1. The growing use of guitars, bouzoukis, and mandolins as accompaniment instruments

  2. The borrowing of ideas from popular music in the arrangement of trad tunes and songs

  3. The increased virtuosity and technique associated with instrumental playing

We'll talk about the importance of well-known acts like Planxty, De Danann, and Makem & Clancy as well as less-famous artists.

Refresh your memory of Ireland’s great musical artists and be introduced to others who helped shape the wonderful musical tradition that we love so much today. We’ll also take time each week to talk about your favorite recordings from the era in question.

Please note: This is a listening class. You will be provided with links to recordings and lyrics to songs, but we will not be learning to play any songs or tunes together.

The classes will be recorded. Students will have access to the video for three weeks after each class session.
