Eight 60-minute classes via Zoom, 6:00-7:00 pm ET
Tuesdays Sept. 24-Nov. 12, 2024. $190
From the rowdiest pub song to the most intricate, delicate a cappella ballad, Irish songs span a wide range of styles. This class will use existing models from the Irish tradition and encourage students to attempt to continue those traditions by creating their own melodies and lyrics.
Never wrote a song before? No problem. Already have some songwriting experience? We’ll hone your skills. You don’t need to be able to play guitar/piano etc., but you’re welcome to work with an instrument if you want. Knowledge of music theory and music notation are not required but might be helpful, depending on your background and the way your musical mind works.
Please be aware: You will be asked to share your songs with the class for creative and encouraging analysis. Expect to draft four songs during the term.
Unleash your inner poet and composer, even if you’re not sure they’re waiting inside you!
The class meetings will be recorded, and students will have access to the recordings for a month after the class.
