Prerequisite: Music Theory III for Irish Musicians or the equivalent.

 

This advanced-level course will explore the practical applications of music theory in Irish music. The focus will be on harmonizing tunes and songs, experimenting with counterpoint, and studying recordings of intriguing arrangements of traditional standards.

 

Students should be conversant in music theory basics like keys, modes, and chords and have some familiarity with harmonizing Irish tunes. Those who are unsure which level of music theory they belong in should contact the instructor (click here) before registering.
